About the Position

Engineer a future with Maricopa County by applying for the Civil Engineer - Permits!

In this role, you will perform entry through journey-level professional engineering duties that will include the review of detailed traffic, paving, grading, drainage, storm drain, water, sewer, dry utilities, and landscape construction drawings. You will fill an important role in the development of Maricopa County while helping to ensure a safe and organized built environment while working in conjunction with the complete list of transportation-related professionals including development firms, home builders, contractors, utility companies, local municipalities, state regulatory agencies, etc.

You will provide clear and accurate technical guidance to other departments, the regulated community, consultants, attorneys, regulatory agencies, and the public regarding environmental regulations, testing issues, zoning ordinances, traffic issues, floodplain issues, etc. You will be one of the Maricopa County Department of Transportation's key plan reviewers to ensure permitted improvements within County rights-of-way are in compliance with all applicable design standards. You will also collaborate with County field inspectors to ensure construction proceeds according to approved plans and permits.

We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Structural, Chemical, Environmental, Mechanical, etc.), Landscape Architecture, Surveying, Hydrology, Environmental Science, Geology, or related field

  • Two years of applicable civil engineering experience either reviewing or preparing construction drawings

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration, or by the technical board of another state, with the ability to obtain Arizona Registration within six months of employment

Job Contributions

  • Provide project reviews and ensure project deliverables meet Department standards

  • Meet with various levels of staff, including leadership, engineers, contractors, and the public to clearly communicate engineering and plan requirements

  • Provide clear and accurate technical guidance to other departments, the regulated community, consultants, attorneys, other regulatory agencies, and the public regarding environmental regulations, testing issues, zoning ordinances, traffic issues, floodplain issues, etc.

  • Participate in the development of project design concepts and criteria; make recommendations for the selection of appropriate countermeasures

  • Represent assigned departments at various meetings with other government agencies and the public

  • Compile, interpret, analyze, and calculate field data

  • Other duties as assigned

Working Conditions

  • Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds. frequently, or negligible amounts constantly; or requires walking or standing to a significant degree

  • The position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions

  • Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration

Protective Equipment Required

  • Standard Hard hat, safety vest, and boots for field visits/meetings
